Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is possible with all skin tones and most hair colors. The process works best for light skin with dark hair However, it can be highly effective for darker skin or other hair colors. Many factors can influence the overall treatment process and the total number of sessions.

A minimum of 4-5 treatments are required to successfully remove all unwanted hair from a particular body area. Your hair grows in cycles and only those follicles that are actively growing at the time of treatment will be affected.

A single laser treatment to a small area, such as your upper lip area, can be completed in as little as 10 minutes. Larger areas, such as your full back, require an hour or more to complete. You can expect mild redness (similar to a sunburn) and minimal swelling (similar to goosebumps) on your skin immediately following a laser treatment. These symptoms can last from 1 hour to 2-3 days, depending upon your skin tone.

The laser treatment feels like a mild sting, (similar to a rubber band snap). Depending upon which laser is determined to be best for your needs, the methods of minimizing any discomfort are simple and will be discussed with you at the complimentary consultation. If the discomfort level is more than you wish to tolerate, we have a very effective topical anesthetic available.

There is often no immediate change. The hair that has been destroyed will not start to fall out for 1-3 weeks. Do not worry if you do not see an obvious change immediately after your first treatment. Merrill Permanent Cosmetic and Laser Center offers 2 extremely effective lasers for the removal of unwanted hair. All skin tones and most hair colors can now be effectively treated with minimum effort and discomfort. Both of our lasers are cleared by the FDA for Permanent Hair Reduction. 

The unique Candela GentleLASE™ is a long pulse, high-energy alexandrite laser system. This system passes a gentle beam of laser light through the skin to the hair follicle where it is transformed into heat energy, which disables the hair follicle and subsequent hair growth.

The Candela GentleLASE™ Laser utilized a revolutionary, dynamic cooling device (DCD), to cool and protect the surface layer of your skin. This DCD is a patented system unavailable with any other laser hair removal system. The DCD is a precisely controlled cryogen spray that is automatically applied to your skin just prior to the laser beam application.

A light burst of cryogen is sprayed through the hand piece tip just prior to the laser pulse.

The high-energy laser light passes through the epidermis, into the dermis layer of the skin where the hair follicle is located. The heat- energy in the laser light disables future hair growth.

The innovative Altus CoolGlide™ ND:YAG laser system allows treatment of dark ethnic skin tones and tanned skin. One week of no tanning is required before AND after laser treatments. The CoolGlide™ generates intense, long-pulse light through a hand piece. The laser's chilled hand piece is placed gently on the skin and glides along as pulses of light are delivered from the laser.
